when this war ends A chamber jazz opera with a uniquely Canadian perspective on world conflict featuring works & performances from The Annex String Quartet, Caitlin Smith, David Occhipinti, Ben Dietschi |
|
Daring, moving, and enlightening, Spectrum concludes its first season with When this
War Ends, a program which presents a uniquely Canadian perspective on world
conflict. A chamber opera from Caitlin Smith explores the war in Afghanistan as it has
been introduced to her: through the lens of her brother, a journalist covering the
conflict overseas. Caitlin explains, “By using my own small experiences in this
manner, I aim for authenticity in my attempt to highlight several aspects of the war,
and our own inability to truly understand it in the West.” Occhipinti’s ‘Can You Hear Me’
and Dietschi’s ‘Folly for a Hero’ round out this provocative foray; When this War Ends
considers how Canadians interpret global conflict in the 21st century: often
from a makeshift perspective fashioned from global mass media and internetdelivered
factoids. The Al Green Theatre, Spadina Ave & Bloor St W. |
