I’m happy to say that it’s been one of our most successful seasons to date. We’ve had strong attendance at all of our concerts, an exciting and diverse mix of artists, and we’ve explored all sorts of places near and far (metaphorically and literally!) with music. It’s hard to believe that it’s been four years since our first concert Stories Without Words, at the Miles Nadal JCC Theatre. Yet when I think back over our the 10+ shows we’ve produced, it’s easy to imagine where the time has gone.
Building an arts company from the ground up hasn’t been easy, there have been all sorts of hurdles along the way. Surviving and thriving in the arts is all about resilience and relentlessly pursuing your passion even when the external environment is hostile. What has allowed our little company to stay afloat in this unpredictable ocean is the dedication of the team of artistic producers. They’ve poured countless volunteer hours into Spectrum, the driving engine behind everything we see realized on the stage. As composers themselves, they are passionate about realizing our work under the best conditions possible. I’m proud to say that my leadership has become mostly about guiding the direction of this talented bunch–they are the heart of the company.
One individual in particular has played an invaluable role in ensuring the success of our productions. Shannon Graham, has not only contributed a sizeable amount of work as a composer to our concerts, she has also shaped the production side of the company, ensuring that our works receive the best performances possible.
Shannon begins her new role as Director of Production at Spectrum effective immediately. I’m looking forward to working collaboratively with her, and the rest of the team to realize our artistic vision. In this role, Shannon will lead all production elements of the company, working with our team of artistic producers to develop each programme.
So, the next time you’re at one of our concerts, take a moment to say hello to Shannon! Many of her works are available on our Youtube channel and you can also hear her lead her band Shannon Graham and the Storytellers.
A huge thank you to the entire team: Shannon, Matt, Jesse, Chelsea, and Graham! You make it all possible.
